The Detroit Tigers finished the 2007 season an impressive 2nd place in the brutal American League Central, but they didn’t quite make it to the playoffs. Early Success

The Detroit Tigers became charter members of the American League in 1901. By the end of the decade they were the best team in the league having won the pennant in 1907, 1908, and 1909. The team was led by Ty Cobb who won his first three batting titles during those years. Cobb would go on to win 8 more batting titles and set dozens of batting records, some of which still stand. Despite Cobb’s hitting exploits the Tigers would not win the World Series in his 22 seasons with the team.
